Ben DiNucci has a Chance to be a Hero
There is nothing more dangerous than a man who has nothing to lose, and Ben DiNucci has nothing to lose. The Nooch was drafted in the seventh round of the draft this season and had no plans of taking the field with Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton both ahead of him on the depth chart to start the season. Nobody has high expectations for DiNucci, a rookie about to make his first career start, and this Cowboys season has been completely derailed since the injury to Dak.
Even though the expectations for DiNucci and the Cowboys could not be lower, the stage couldn’t be much bigger. DiNucci heads into his first start in a Sunday night, primetime game. Oh and who is he playing? The Philadelphia Eagles. With a win here, the Cowboys would take the lead of the NFC Least and be in a prime spot to make the playoffs.
Even though the Eagles only have one more win (and a tie) than the Cowboys, they are double digit favorites. In a division rivalry game where anything can happen, this is DiNucci’s chance to become the NFL story of the week and lead this beat-up Cowboys team to its third win in a division that may only need 6 wins to make the playoffs. If DiNucci can step up and take command of this offense with some of the best weapons in the NFL, he could lead the Cowboys to the playoffs in similar fashion to Dak in his rookie season.
This may be the start of one of the greatest NFL Film stories of all time, "The Nooch," or it is most likely the Cowboys lose by 25 and continue this nightmare of a season. Only time will tell.
